Depo Vozovna Střešovice
Type: Building
Description:
The Střešovice depot, located in Prague 6, is one of the most important landmarks of Prague’s public transport.
The depot was opened in 1909 and was one of the first modern depots of Prague's electric railways. It was built according to a standard design with three hall sections and had a capacity of up to 129 trams. Throughout its history, it also served trolleybuses and underwent several renovations. In the second half of the 20th century, there were plans to shut it down, but it eventually found a new purpose.
Since 1992, the depot has served as a museum of urban public transport. Dozens of historic trams, buses, and metro cars can be found here. The exhibition is open on weekends during the summer season, and open days are held on special occasions. The depot is also the starting point for nostalgic tram lines 23, 41, and 42.
